Pete's Bio
Pete is a 3rd generation Ipswichian, born at Ipswich General Hospital, grew up in One Mile, and having always lived in Ipswich. He currently resides in East Ipswich.
His great grandfather, Gothe (William), and great uncle Folke (Harry) were the Pommer Brothers, who have a long history with Ipswich, known for the Ice and Butter factories. Folke (better known as Harry or Henry) was also a member of the former Brassall Council and Moreton Shire Council.Â
Grandfather Henry (Harry) Pommer served in New Guinea. After which, he returned to Ipswich and worked until retirement, operating the boiler at the Hancock Saw Mill in North Ipswich.
If you placed a bet at the West Ipswich TAB, you more than likely did so with Pete’s mother Maureen (née Pommer), sister Kerry Lockyer or, on occasion, brother-in-law Don Lockyer. Don has had a long and distinguished career with Queensland Rail (QR), having started as a nipper on the rail lines, and working up to a senior construction inspector.
If you bought a train ticket at the Old Ipswich train station in Bell St or the new station, it was possibly from Ras Robinson, Pete’s father, who worked for QR in ticketing from around 1967 to 1989.
Of course, on the Robinson side, the family connection to coal mining exists with his grandfather Victor (Jimmy) Robinson working as a coal miner. Along with his aunt Irene Preuss (née Robinson) and uncle Otto Preuss, who worked in coal mining, until retiring as a member of the QLD Coal Board in 1979.
His Brother Roen and sister-in-law Vera reside in Brisbane, having both had successful careers educating children.
